Priezac Cottage lies in the soft rolling countryside of the western Correze, near to the famous equestrian centre and racecourse of Pompadour and within an hours' drive of 6 of the "Beaux Villages" of France.
Pompadour, or Arnac-Pompadour to give it it's full name, is a 15 minute drive north of Priezac, and apart from the horse attractions, the small town is dominated by an imposing fortified chateau that overlooks the racecourse. The chateau is open to the public, and it is possible to wander around (without charge) the racecourse and the national stud enclosure when there are not specific events on. During July and August there are race meetings virtually every week (usually Sundays) and these are fine casual events enjoyed by all the family (and pets!) and entrance fees are very reasonable. Pompadour also has a few restaurants, a good supermarket and a tourist information centre.
Within 10 minutes drive of Priezac, to the south, is the small town of Objat, famous in the Correze for its busy, regular Sunday market where you can shop for locally grown produce as well as the normal market goods. Objat is well equiped with a diversity of shops, restaurants, cafes and bars plus of course banks and estate agents, and has several supermarkets and a large DIY store (Mr Bricolage) on the outskirts.
Further to the south, approximately 25 minutes by car, is the busy town of Brive La Gaillarde, which although not the official capital of the Correze, is undoubtedly the vibrant cultural and economic centre of the department. Although it only has a population of just over 50,000, it is the largest town, and has a wide variety of shops, restaurants and bars to be found in the maze of small streets that radiate out from the imposing church that is the focal point in the centre of the town. Brive also boasts a Top 14 multi-national rugby team, a multiplex cinema, 10 pin bowling, and has a large market twice a week. Information on places to visit and what's on can be obtained from the Tourist Information Centre situated in the Place de 4 Juillet next to the bus station.
Brive Market - a large meat & vegetable indoor market with numerous clothing and other stalls outside.
